The Idea behind Today’s Incredible LCD Tellies

When Panasonic first began making a new leading collection of TV’s roughly around the year 2000, their goal was:

(+) To bring video quality so genuinely, TV spectators would consider that they are not merely watching but actually experiencing the action.

(+) To highlight the confidence of “truly being there” by submerging the viewers in first-rate sound.

(+) To augment the spectators experience by creating a sleek, trendy, but entirely inconspicuous TV that wouldn’t distract from any of the action taking place on-screen.

(+) To make using the TV as uncomplicated as physically possibly whilst additionally maximising its networking potential.

(+) To imitate this objective, the new series of televisions was to be named VIERA: indicating a new VIsion ERA. The effect became the top selling and prize-winning VIERA selection of Plasma and LCD TVs that are available to buy today, providing you the following benefits:

Picture performance: Equipped with Panasonic’s unique V.Real II / V.Real Pro II technology - the result of months & months of extensive research and improvement covering the extent of the TV chain from professional television cameras through to tellies in your homes - each and every VIERA offers pictures of amazing realism and beauty and places you concretely at the nucleus of the feature film!

First-class audio: Featuring modern digital tuners and a few super-slim inconspicuous amplifiers all housed inside the shiny & slender body of the VIERA itself, V.Audio sound involves you in the on-screen action.

Glossy and yet inconspicuous style: From the telly to the cabinet stand, VIERA has lovely fluid curves that are more or less organic in form. This innovative method has been the attribute of VIERA TV’s ever since the begin and offers the feeling of nearly a “floating” display - which does not divert you from the on-screen action. Furthermore, VIERA televisions have been designed from the ground up with the environmental surroundings in mind and feature replenishable bamboo amps, lead free creation, and best practice assembly. Bahamas Cruise Expert Guide

The Bahamas is arguably the most popular cruise
destination for U.S. travelers, and is especially
popular with first-time cruisers from the U.S. Only
75kms from mainland USA, the outer islands that make
up the group can be reached within a matter of hours.
This makes the Bahamas an excellent choice of
location for a short Bahamas cruise break of two,
three or four nights away from home.

Some 700 islands make up the archipelago of the
Bahamas, of which only around 50 are inhabited.
Cruise lines generally focus on just two Bahaman
ports - Nassau and Freeport.

Nassau is Bahamas’ capital, and is located on the
island of New Providence. It is a beautiful compact
city that is easy to explore inside a day’s shore
excursion. The city’s charm is in its architecture -
and of course its people. Late 18th century and early
19th century colonial buildings stand as reminders of
Bahamas’ British past. Parliament Square in downtown
Nassau offers a unique perspective on the city’s
architecture, watched over, as always, by a grandiose
marble statue of Queen Victoria.

But Nassau is not just about history. It has a vibrant
modern side too. Quality shops, fine restaurants and
golden beaches, up onto which the inviting warm
transparent waters of the Caribbean lap, are all
there to be sampled. Activities such as snorkeling,
diving and passenger submarine rides make for an
exciting time in this tropical paradise. The nightlife
in Nassau is buzzing too, with casinos and nightclubs
offering the best of Bahamian life.

A Bahamas cruise to Freeport on the island of Grand
Bahama offers tropical paradise that is very close to
home. Easily accessible on a two-night Bahamas cruise,
Freeport is a city that welcomes cruisers and tourists
with open arms. Duty-free shopping is one of the
biggest draws of Freeport, and the city itself
features a 10-acre international bazaar - a real
shopping paradise in the tropics!

The nightlife in Freeport is world-renowned. Casinos,
nightclubs and live entertainment in Freeport are
amongst the best in the Caribbean, and make for a
great night out when you’re on a Bahamas cruise.

For travelers looking for a Bahamas cruise of a longer
duration than four nights, some cruise lines offer
special extended cruises, several of which incorporate
a port call at a private island owned by the cruise
company.

Bahamas cruises generally depart from ports in Florida.
Port Canaveral, Fort Lauderdale and Miami port are the
big three which offer cruises to the Bahamas. So, if
you’re looking to take a short romantic break, or just
fancy a change of scenery for the weekend, why not get
yourself down to Florida and book a Bahamas cruise.
Bahamas cruises are reasonably priced, and I guarantee
you that the experience will be one that lives long in
the memory.

Building a 16 Foot Grand Banks Dory

As a kid I did a lot of boat building, mainly scale models that were not able to sail, although I did actual build a few boats that were, more or less, capable of sailing. I even once build a 10 feet boat, or shall I say raft. I accomplished this with a few friends and we had great fun sailing it on the local river. It was not really water proof and while one person was rowing, the others had to make sure that they removed the water quicker then it was entering our boat.

Then sadly one day we failed. I was rowing at the time, and we were in the middle of the river when it was clear we were sinking. I stopped rowing to assist with the hosing, but this only slowed down the process of sinking, it did not stop it. So I started to row again in on effort to reach dry land before we sank, thus avoiding having to swim to safety.

And guess what: We made it! Just before the boat really started to sink we managed to jump ashore. Here we watched as our pride and joy slowly sank to the bottom of the river. It was then that we realised we were at the wrong side of the river and this left us with a problem. We either had to walk to the nearest bridge, 5 miles upriver, so that would have been a 10 mile walk, or swim to the other side.

We decided on swimming. We did not see anyone around, so we quickly undressed, and with one hand holding our clothes above the water, we managed to get back to our own side of the river. Just as we were struggling to get out of the water a group of girls from our own school were passing by, and I can tell you we were not happy!

This all happened a long time ago and a few times in my live I have had plans of building a boat again. I have spent a good amount of time looking at boat building plans, but with boats size does matter.

I usually looked at boats between 30 and 40 feet, but the sheer volume of work involved has always stopped me from going ahead with my boat building plans.

Now I have decided to start small. I am going to build a 16 feet Grand Banks dory, which I want to fit with a small outboard engine. I bought the boat building plans, I got the working space, and by the time you read this article I might be finished already.

Later, who knows, I might build a 40 feet cabin cruiser, and tow my Grand Banks dory behind me. Then, if my cabin cruises sinks, I can always row to safety in my Grand Banks dory, dry and with my clothes on.

Henk Rekers is going to build this Grand Banks Dory.

Alaska Cruises - Sitka Port-of-Call!

To experience the diversity and absolute beauty of Alaska, you must visit the port-of-call on Alaska cruises, Sitka. This seaside Alaskan town on Baranof Island has been both Russian and American.

The beauty of Sitka comes in part because of its location. With the Pacific Ocean on the west, and the forested mountains to the east, Sitka is considered by many to be the most beautiful of the seaside Alaska towns. The vistas of the area are a large reason why Alexander Baranof, the first Russian Governor of Alaska chose to build his castle here in the borough of Sitka.

Of course, the wildlife adds to the beauty of the area and is another reason Alaska cruises often make a stop in Sitka. Humpback whales use the waters off the Sitka borough for feeding in early spring and late fall. During the summer, the area around Sitka offers cruise passengers chance sitings of tufted puffins and a myriad of other birds, sea otters, sea lions and many other marine and forest creatures. As a matter of note, Sitka lies in one of the largest temperate rain forests in the world.

Alaska cruises to Sitka also provide a cultural insight into the development of the Alaskan frontier. As was noted earlier, Sitka played host to the government when Alaska was a Russian territory. Historical sites include the Baranof Castle Hill site.

The Tlingit culture is also quite evident in the Sitka borough. This native culture provides Alaska cruise guests yet another insight into Alaska’s development.

Currently, Sitka’s economy is based on lumber and processing, fishing, and of course tourism. Sitka is home to Sheldon Jackson College and the Sitka Branch of the University of Alaska. A Coast Guard air station is located at Sitka as well.

Many Alaska cruise itineraries make stops at Sitka. For example, Holland America Alaska cruises have about 18 itineraries that include Sitka. Norwegian Cruise Lines have 4 Alaska cruise itineraries that include stops in Sitka. Two Princess Alaska cruise itineraries stop in Sitka. Carnival includes stops in Sitka on both their north bound and south bound Alaska cruises. Royal Caribbean includes a stop at Sitka on at least one of its Alaska cruises.

The beauty of Alaska can by far be best seen while on an Alaska cruise itinerary that includes a stop in Sitka, arguably the most beautiful of all Alaskan seaside towns. Native women display graceful dance forms of India , the Japanese tea ceremony and the Chinese theatre. All of these wonders have enormous cultural significance that are and integral part of the region’s tradition. It is a pleasure to be a spectator of such enormous cultural and traditional environment intermingles with every walk of life, so alike to each other yet so very regional in its own right.

Join the exercise classes, get a soothing massage, and enjoy a relaxing sauna.

Some cruises offer aerial sightseeing, white water rafting, and hikes amongst other things. You can find spas, health clubs and even wedding chapels on your cruise ship.Children have special play areas or centers with lots of fun and entertainment. The Rise and Rise of Croatia For Sailing Holidays

In the 1980s, Croatia - then part of Yugoslavia - built up a sizeable yacht charter industry. It was never then on the scale to rival long time favourite Greece, but it was large enough to get itself noticed as an attractive coming destination. Then came the various Balkan wars - one of them involving Croatia itself - and the disintegration of old Yugoslavia. Croatia is now the ex-Yugoslav republic with almost all the coast line!

Since the wars ended the growth of the croatian yacht charter industry has been little short of astonishing. In an industry notoriously short of credible statistics, we suspect that Croatia must now be a serious rival to Greece. There are a number of expalanations for this remarkable success:

  • The country is naturally blessed with sailing waters as good and varied as anywhere in the world.
  • After the war, the Croatian government went out of its way to encourage and indeed subsidise the re-building and building of the necessary infrastructure - most obviously the marinas.
  • Northern Croatia is a 4 hour drive from most of Austria, and southern parts of Germany. Even Dalmatia, where perhaps the best sailing is to be found - is only 6 hours away. This was always a big advantage, but in the wake of 9/11, when Germans in particular were reluctant to climb on an airplane, it catapulted the industry forward.

Sailing holidays in Croatia now include almost everything that customers could conceivably want. There are thousands of bareboat yachts to charter in bases from Pula and Cres in Istria, to the massive yachting centres of Zadar, Sukosan, Sibenik, Murter Island, Split, & Dubrovnik. Each one of those can be chartered with a skipper for those without the necessary experience. There are sailing flotillas from Split, and an RYA Authorised Sailing School on Murter Island. The opportunities to spend one week afloat and another ashore are endless.

One of the problems for the British used to be that getting there was expensive and there were not enough seats on such planes flew there. Things started to improve in 2004, with regular charter flights to Split at least. For 2005, there are flights to Opatija in the north, Zadar to get to central Dalmatia, Split, and also Dubrovnik. Getting to Istria is easy. Just fly EasyJet to Venice, or Ryanair to Trieste. The first has hydrofoil links to the excellent sailing of Pula; the second is a transfer bus away from Portoroz (actually in Slovenia), and Pula. Croatia is now the sailing destination for the British - the destination that has it all!

Summertime And Boats… And Boat Insurance

Early summertime is the time of year, when boat owners start getting back on the water. I am speaking about pleasure boaters, those who use their boats to make a living fishing are on the water when the fish are under it.

It’s the time of year when boaters need to look at what maintenance that their boats need and make sure that everything is in order like their licensing fees and boat insurance. Now boat insurance and licensing fees aren’t the reason somebody gets a boat, unless they are a masochist, but it is an important part of boat ownership.

People would rather slap another coat of varnish on or replace all the lanyards than think about the financial aspects of boat ownership. That is perfectly normal, part of the reason we get boats is the freedom. We see the boat as an escape from our normal humdrum life especially all those reminders of our day to day responsibilities.

This is especially true in late Spring and early Summer when our thoughts start turning from progress reports and daily production logs to nautical maps and tidal charts.

Nothing is better than being out on the water, far away from the cares of the world. The feel of a clean breeze blowing through our hair while we go about our tasks on a boat drops years from our age.

Still we wouldn’t neglect to do any of those physical things necessary for safe and fun boating so we shouldn’t neglect any of the financial aspects like boat insurance. Nothing could be more important than protecting your assets especially those assets that bring us pleasure.

A boat is not just ‘a whole in the water that you pour money into’, there is far more pleasure than duty involved. A boat is one of our earliest forms of transportation and there are literally thousands of years of history and tradition associated with boats.

We all would like to touch some history; take our place on the stage of the world with our real heroes. We just need to remember that our safety comes first then the pleasure.

Discover important advice and information about boat insurance. What deals should you look for? And what should you avoid. Click http://www.boat-insurance-comprehensive.com/

The History Of Celebrity Cruise Lines

The Chandris Line was the precursor of Celebrity Cruises.

One of the ships operated by Chandris was the beautiful Liner America previously owned by the United States Line and initially captained by Demitrios Challioris who had been in charge of a crude oil tanker in Southampton.

Chandris bought the largest passenger liner ever in Greece called the Australis. The Australis had served extensively as a troop ship during the second world war so underwent a major refit and became a one-class configuration geared to carry 2300 passengers.

The aft promenade decks were extended, a swimming pool was added, and air conditioning was installed.

She made 3 month voyages around the world from Bremerhaven, Rotterdam, Southampton, Casablanca, Las Palmas, Cape Town,(or through the Mediterranean via Gibraltar, Naples, Malta, Piraeus, Port Said and Aden), Freemantle, Melbourne, Sydney, Auckland, Suva, Tahiti, Acapulco, Balboa, Cristobal, Port Everglades and return to Southampton.

Chandris Lines also had the Australian Government’s prized immigrant contract bringing tens of thousands of new immigrants out to major ports in Australia The ships were always sold out so that there were 3 sittings for dinner and special sittings for kids. P&O, a rival cruise line, had ceased the line voyage business to Australia so that the Australis was now known as “the world’s largest express liner” .

In 1977 Australis tried a new itinerary from the South Pacific to points in South America to Portugal.

Interest in Sea Travel at that time was low and Australis and became the sole remaining liner on the trade.

New Immigrants now traveled by jet.
In November of 1977 Australis was laid up.
In 1978 she was sold to US investors.

They mismanaged the ship and their company, Venture Cruises, was declared bankrupt.
Guess who bought the ship in bankruptcy court?
    Chandris Lines.

For $4 million less than the amount for which they sold her four months earlier!
The ship was laid up and sold in 1992.

Celebrity Cruises was created by Chandris Lines as a separate luxury cruise line, initially using Chandris’s Galileo, which was renamed Meridian after she was rebuilt. She was joined by the new ships Horizon and Zenith in 1990 and 1992.

In 1989 there was a need in the Cruise Industry for a luxury product at a decent price.
Chandris wanted to establish a worldwide standard for cruising by The company was determined to set a new, worldwide standard for cruising.

Exceptional Cuisine and all its facets became the mainstay of the Celebrity Cruise experience.
Master Chefs serve as the line’s revered culinary and wine consultants since its founding.

In 1995 Celebrity introduced the so called Century Class Fleet with an Industry first:
    Luxurious Spa Experiences.

In 1997, Celebrity Cruises merged with Royal Caribbean International, bringing together two extraordinary cruise brands within one corporation, Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd.
Today Royal Caribbean uses 29 Cruise Liners.

Cruising has become so popular that from 2000 to 2002 Royal Caribbean doubled its passenger capacity.

Its newest ships use gas turbine engines reducing exhaust emissions by 95% and have become traveling art shows as well.

They boast original paneling and artifacts from famous transatlantic luxury liners.

In 2001, building on the strengths of both the Royal Caribbean International and Celebrity Cruises brands,Royal Celebrity Tours was started to offer truly unique vacations in Alaska, Canada and Europe, combining outstanding cruises with exceptional pre- or post-cruise land tour packages now known as “cruisetours.”

    The History of Water Sports

Swimming is noted in many of the classics as relating to heroism and religion. Nicolas Wynman’s Dialogue Concerning the Art of Swimming (1538) is the first recorded written document on swimming methods. Swimming first appeared in the Olympics in 1896, paralleled to the development of the swimming pool. Swimming the English Channel is the most publicized non-Olympic event. It proves excellence in strength and endurance. Matthew Webb from England was the first man to cross the English Channel in 1875, and later Gertrude Ederle of the Unites States of America became the first woman to cross in 1926.

Snorkeling to view exotic fish and aquamarine life is a much-loved vacation adventure. In ancient times snorkels were crafted from hollow reeds found in lakes and marshes. Pliny the Elder, a first century A.D. Roman makes reference to the snorkel, so the activity holds rank as one of the oldest recorded water sports. Loenardo da Vinci created a more modern snorkel when the Venetian senate summonsed him to do so. Divers attached this hollow tube to leather helmets
The present-day diver’s snorkel is typically a J-shaped tube that is open at the top and has a mouthpiece at the other end, usually no more than 2 ft (61 cm) long.

American West-coasters go wild riding the waves on a wooden plank known as a surfboard. Originally, surfing developed in Hawaii in the nineteenth century. It became popular in California in the 1920s, and became a hit youth sport in the 1960s.

Surfers originally used long, cumbersome wooden boards but now ride lightweight synthetic boards that allow a greater degree of maneuverability. Hawaii holds annual international surfing championships.

Water polo originated in England in 1870, and American joined the bandwagon in the early 1900s. Many club and college teams exist for this rigorous sport. Americans gave the game a twist by using a softer rubber ball in a larger pool, a game known as softball water polo. Violence and rough play ended this faction of the sport, and today only the hardball version continues to be played worldwide. Men began Olympic level water polo in 1900, and women first played in the Olympics in 2000.

Diving, another favorite Olympic sport, initiated competition in 1871 off the London Bridge. Diving is now a popular sport at the high school and collegiate level, and is an amazing display of strength, control and agility.

    Cheap Cruises Essentials - 3 Pre-Trip Tips

If you are going to take the time and effort to book a cheap cruise in order to save money, you should also be certain that you are being cost effective in you pre-trip preparations. Here are several tips for keeping your costs down as you prepare for your cruise.

    Go with what you’ve got.

Your summer clothes from last season are fine for your cheap cruise. You’re going to relax, not to participate in an on-deck fashion show. Don’t go blow all your money before the trip on new swimwear and shorts. Your old Hawaii shirts and last summer’s swim trunks will serve you just fine.

The same goes for your luggage. Nobody is going to be impressed if you come on board with brand new leather travel bags. You’re going to be on a ship so stuffing everything into an old gym bag is perfect. In fact, it will make you look like a real “old-salt” to others on board.

Hide your plastic and bring cash.

While you should probably bring your credit card with you on your cruise, consider it for emergency use only. For spending money, set a budget ahead of time for things like souvenirs and put this amount aside in cash or traveller’s checks for your cruise. This will keep you from over-spending and help you avoid the “charge it” syndrome once you are on board.

Stock up on film before you leave.

Of course, no cruise would be complete without taking tons of pictures of your trip to share with friends and relatives upon your return. Film prices on the cruise ship are notoriously expensive though. Stocking up on cheap rolls of film from your local discount store will save you a bunch of money.

You’ve taken the time to book a cheap cruise - now use the tips above to continue saving money before you leave. Being frugal during your travel preparations will leave you with more money to spend during your vacation. Enjoy your cruise!
