Inflation and Online Poker

US inflation is going strong yet again. Peaking in July, United States inflation is at its highest rate since 1991, a staggering 17 years ago. The consumer price index (CPI) also increased as well, signaling an increase in the costs for a representative basket of goods. What does this trend of soaring prices for common household goods mean for consumers? Less spending power in a weakening economy. However dismal this may sound, online poker is relatively unaffected by this sharp rise in prices. Since prices indicate the value of a certain product or service, higher prices for the same good or service seems ridiculous and even unfair. In the online poker world, buy-ins are equivalent to the price consumers pay for any good or service.

Despite the rising prices for most consumer necessities, the price of playing online poker has remained more or less the same. You can rest assured that to enter into an online poker game or online poker tournament you do not need to pay a higher buy -in than the usual depending on the table stakes rules of course. Table stakes rules sets the floor and cap for winning and/or losing in cash or ring games.

RuneScape Cheats - Is It OK To Cheat?

In the real physical world we look down on cheaters with utter disgust. However in the world of RuneScape, the players who get away with RuneScape cheats are often viewed as heroes. These MMORPG legends are the underground people who somehow find unknown cheats that the developers left vulnerable, many times even on purpose. It turns out that some RuneScape developers use the cheats themselves! Sometimes the secret info or passwords leak and they soon become popular.

Because they are so useful for online gamers, RuneScape cheats are very high in demand. In fact there are “gamers” who actually don’t play RuneScape for the game itself but rather to find valuable cheats that they can later sell for a high price.

We have all heard of the term “Back Door”, well there is always a backdoor in the system and RuneScape is no exception. Developers know this way back from the ages of Atari and the first version of Mario Bros. They also know that a certain class of player gets tired very easily and can even get annoyed at the game. That’s why these backdoors and cheats are created, to soothe and satisfy the need of the player.

Many, many websites offer RuneScape cheats. It’s not even funny how many sites offer these cheats and passwords. That’s mainly thanks to the ultra popularity this game has achieved during its short lifespan. One way to not blatantly cheat the system but rather look for a helping hand is to look for a walkthrough rather than a cheat. Walkthroughs show you how to overcome and finish quests without breaking any rules or making any moderator unhappy.

Having said all this, we should not be afraid of using RuneScape cheats if the situation requires it. If you’ve been stuck on a puzzle for ages and have just tried about everything and have reached the point of maximum frustration, THEN it’s time to unleash your use of RuneScape cheats.

Jeremy Tang has written a bit about his favorite online games. Check out what you needed to know about the RuneScape autominer and seek some RuneScape help.

Guitar Hero Review (PS2)

Guitar Hero is a fun music based game for the PS2. The developer of Guitar Hero, Harmonix, had previously created Amplitude and before that Frequency. All three of these games are music based games where you have to strum or button your way through a song. Frequency was the first, and in my opinion (and that of my friends) better than the sequel Amplitude. While Amplitude had a much better shared multiplayer view, the songs weren’t as good and the sense of actually playing the music was much decreased in Amplitude. So when the guys come over to play games at my place, we usually plop in Frequency and not Amplitude.

Guitar Hero carries on the tradition, and I think is an improvement over Amplitude. It actually includes a guitar controller, which is a half-size plastic guitar with five coloured buttons on the neck. You “strum” a two inch long lever, and the guitar even includes a bendy bar. But you don’t have to use this peripheral if you don’t want to. Using the controller feels very much like Frequency or Amplitude, except that you sometimes have to hold down the notes over time, which wasn’t a feature in the previous games.

But the guitar peripheral makes it so much more fun, you’ll want to use it. The joystick ability really only comes in handy when you play in two-player mode against a friend and can’t afford to buy a second guitar.

But how do you actually play a song? Easy to learn, difficult to master. The coloured buttons on the neck correspond to coloured dots on the moving score of the song. The score actually approaches you, and as coloured dots approach and cross a line right in front of you, you have to have the correct coloured button held down as you strum the guitar. Then the note will change to a different one, so you have to change your fingering before your next strum. It is easier than it sounds. Check the IGN website for Guitar Hero videos.

How is it? Fun fun FUN! This is one great game with great songs, and great multiplayer action. I’ve only played it multiplayer with a controller, but getting a second guitar in there would be even more of a blast. I had my friends over to play this game and they all raved about it. If you like listening to music and have a PS2, then you owe it to yourself to at least try this game.

Problems? Yes, a few. My biggest complaint (though not that big in absolute terms - this is a great game) is that the mapping of music tracks to game tracks isn’t as fun as many of the tracks in Frequency and Amplitude were. In those game you’d really get into a groove and really enjoy how the tracks were arranged by the developers. Guitar Hero doesn’t have quite the same creativity when it came to laying down the tracks. As well, the game ramps up in difficulty way too fast. The hardest setting is clearly impossible for everyone without a genetically enhanced metabolism. (This was also a problem with Frequency and Amplitude.)

But don’t let those things distract you from what is otherwise a very fun game. And if you don’t want to splurge on the full price right away, you might want to try Frequency. It’s an older game so is now in many bargain bins. It’s a true gem, and you can try out this style of gameplay for less than $10.

Chasing the Almighty EverQuest Platinum

If you’ve ever ventured into Norrath, the virtual world of the fabulous EverQuest MMORPGs, then you know that life there is all about the platinum. EverQuest platinum is as necessary as air if you’re planning to advance in level and pay for the equipment, weapons, ingredients, and other goodies you’ll need to get ahead in Norrath. How do you acquire EverQuest platinum, you ask? Well, there are several acceptable ways to go about it, and you should take advantage of every one of them.

Everquest platinum, Everquest riches

We all know that the fun part of EverQuest is going out on quests, and this is certainly one of the ways the designers intended for players to acquire their EverQuest platinum. It can be slow, though; it’s hard to save up even one EverQuest platinum at the rate of one copper a rat, considering that the exchange rate is a mere 1,000,000 coppers per platinum! Fortunately, the bigger the critter the more they’re worth — and the better stuff they have on them. Selling valuable items you’ve acquired is an excellent means of increasing your EverQuest platinum funds. Spend a few points on crafting here and there, and you can even make useful items to sell for gold and the occasional platinum piece.

A platinum saved is a platinum earned

If worse comes to worse, there’s always another effective way to increase your EverQuest platinum: by having your real world avatar buy some on the Internet. You can buy EverQuest platinum for the original EQ as little as $.54 per 1000 from many Internet vendors; you can even find it for sale on eBay. Amazingly, the EQ2 version of Everquest platinum goes for an eyepopping $3.00+/platinum. Is it any surprise that EverQuest economies are healthier than some of their real-world counterparts?

Why MP3 Music is the Preferred Format for Your Sony PSP

Almost a year ago since the Sony PSP launched in the gaming
market and what impact it‘s made. The Sony PSP has many
features and aside from games, I find that the music feature
of the PSP is one of the most attractive features. I‘ve
enjoyed listening and downloading music from the internet
and on my Sony PSP where most of them requires MP3 format. I
then started to wonder why MP3 is the most used format
instead of other formats such as Wma, AAC or Atrac3.

Originally developed in Germany, a file extension that
encodes music into three layers for the compression of audio
signals known as the MPEG Audio Layer 3 (MP3). To make it
simple, MP3 compresses CD-quality sound by a factor of about
10, while retaining most of the original fidelity, for
instance, 30 MB CD track can be compressed into 3 MB MP3
file.

The MP3 files can easily be transferred across the internet
since the files are relatively small. Nowadays, more and
more websites allows you to download MP3 music from the
internet for free and some may charge you for a few bucks.
The most popular ones such as Napster and Kazaa often allows
you to download it for free. However, it creates a problem
for them as they apparently violated the copyrighted MP3
files and as a result facing unnecessary charges. Here are a
couple of websites that I can think of:

http://www.realmusicnow.com

http://www.mp3-freebie.com

http://www.mp3musiq.com

http://www.mp3advance.com

http://klitetk.com

Is not just that MP3 can be found on the internet very
easily but can also be converted from music CD. The process
of converting a digital audio track from a music CD to the
MP3 format is widely known as “ripping”. Music CDs can be
converted to MP3 very easily using a stand-alone program or
a function in a software-based media player such as Windows
Media Player 10, Real Player, iTunes and others. Windows
Media Player 10 can rip the MP3 bit rates from 8 kbps to
320 kbps but on average 128 kbps (kilobits per second) can
be considered the norm of good quality MP3 files.

In my opinion, MP3 rates the best for converting and
downloading music files quickly and easily. However, some
disadvantages might disappoint us PSP and music fanatics
since we‘re finding the lowest possible MB (megabytes) that
stores in our PSP memory stick. First, it’s difficult to
convert music files provided by commercial online music
distribution services such as Sony’s Connect and iTunes
Music Store. The supported and protected Digital Management
Rights (DRM) music files aims to control and restrict the
use of digital music. Also, the DRM technology installed on
software-based media program such as Windows Media Player 10
makes it very difficult for us to convert online-purchased
music files into MP3.

Second, the highly compressed and quality audio of MP3 files
uses more of our memory stick capacity compare to Atrac3.
The Atrac3 music format compress audio CD files to the
lowest possible MB along with the same if not better audio
quality than the MP3s. This can be good news for us music
fanatics who wants to enhance music collection on their Sony
PSP. Unfortunately Atrac3 is less user-friendly than the MP3
which disappoints most of us.

Regardless of this, everyone should get their MP3 and
download it to their PSP. MP3 is the most standardized
format and widely accepted throughout any software-based
media player or converter. You can download or convert it to
your Sony PSP very quickly and easily with its more
intuitive and user-friendly approach.

So, start download MP3 music to your PSP now!

XBOX 360 vs. PS3: an in Depth Look

All gamers are awaiting the release of the Xbox 360 and the PS3. This article takes an in depth look at how the two systems compare.

Graphics:

Everyone has seen an Xbox and a PS2 in action and we are all waiting to see which of the two next generation consoles for the two systems will have the edge when it comes to graphics. We have all seen the screenshots of the games on the two systems but what about actual gameplay graphics. Despite the hot debate, when you look at the numbers the two systems use a different but equally effective method of delivering graphics processing power. The XBOX uses a custom ATI processor with 48 graphics pipelines and the PS2 has a custom NVIDA graphics processor with an estimated 24 pipelines. The numbers are misleading because the PS2 piplines are more powerful than the XBOX pipelines. In the end the two different graphics processors will deliver about the same amount of power, we can expect to see impressive results from both sides.

Games:

Both systems have several franchise titles such as Halo2 for the XBOX and Gran Tourismo for the PS2 that you will see in the next generation systems, but what other games can you expect to see. If you are a fan of genres such as role playing that are dominated by Japanese and other foreign developers such as Square, you should look forward to the PS3. There is no indication that the XBOX 360 is going to gain much more support from foreign developers and buyers than the original XBOX. An article on GameSpot.com reports that only two percent of Japanese gamers are interested in buying an XBOX 360, with sixty percent looking forward to the PS3 and eight percent to the Nintendo Revolution. Overall you can expect to see more games on the PS3 than the XBOX 360, reflecting the selection for the current generation systems. Only time will which console will have the quality of games which all of us are been expecting

Media Type:

Will the media storage type be a factor in the quality of the games? Since PS3 is owned by Sony and BLUray is Sony’s next high definition storage medium, the PS3 games will be stored on the BLUray discs which hold approximately 54 gigs. The Xbox 360 games will be stored on Double Layer DVDs which store 9 gigs. Obviously the BLUray discs can store a lot more data, but at the current stage of game development, any game developed will fit just as well on the 9 gig DVDs, so this is not a major factor but one that may come into play later on.

Processing Power:

How do the two systems compare when looking at brute processing power? The PS3 uses a Cell processor with a PowerPC-based core with seven synergistic processing units while the Xbox comes with a Custom IBM PowerPC CPU with three dual-threaded cores that can handle six total threads at a time. An important comparison to look at is the number of dot product calculations per second the systems can perform. The reason this number is important is because it is used extensively during gameplay in 3d math to calculate various things such as vector lengths, projections, transformations, and more. Both systems are clocked at 3.2 Ghz. The PS3 can handle 51-billion dot product operations per second and the Xbox can handle 33.6. There is a debate over which system has more brute processing power and these numbers can be confusing to the average person, but overall it seems that the PS3 has an edge over the Xbox when it comes to overall processing power.

Media Type:

Since PS3 is owned by Sony and BLUray is Sony’s next high definition storage medium, the PS3 games will be stored on the BLUray discs which hold approximately 54 gigs. The Xbox 360 games will be stored on Double Layer DVDs which store 9 gigs. Obviously the BLUray discs can store a lot more data, but at the current stage of game development, any game developed will fit just as well on the 9 gig DVDs, so this is not a major factor but one that may come into play later on.

Games:

When considering games, you have to look at the XBOX and the PS2. The XBOX is very popular in the US and has a few great franchise games such as Halo, but the PS2 has an international reach and several popular game franchises such as Gran Tourismo that the XBOX has yet to beat. The XBOX 360 will need to appeal to foreign game developers and consumers to compete with the PS3. Only time will which console will have the quality of games which all of us are been expecting

Controllers:

The controllers on the two systems retain the basic shape from the original systems with some modifications. The PS3 controller has the most dramatic change; it has a streamline shape that looks more like a stealth airplane than a game controller. The XBOX controller is basically the same shape as the previous system with a different color scheme. From the pictures released, it seems the XBOX controller will be more comfortable and natural to use. The PS3 controller looks like it would just slip out of your hand but we will not know how the controllers feel during actual gameplay until we get our hands on them.

Interested in a New PS3 for X-mas? Better Get in Line Now

Sony has finally announced the launch date for the new PS3, which is November 17, 2006. Soon after their big announcement at E3, Sony also dropped a bombshell; the prices. At $499 for the stripped down version, the PS3 becomes one of the most expensive gaming platforms in history. Did I mention this is the stripped down version? If you decide you need the top level PS3, be prepared to shell out $599 for it.

There are some very notable differences between the two systems, besides the $100 price point, which include an extra 40 gigs of memory, and an HDMI port. While the $499 20 gig system is fine for the vast majority of the TVs in households right now, can the same be said for two or three years down the road? Sony knows the future is in HD, even if the average consumer does not.

The real issues involving the new PS3 are the future of Blu-ray, which is just one of two competing new DVD formats, supply problems, and Sony’s history of high upfront prices, followed by steep price drops. There is no question that the demand for the new PS3 is built in, and there can also be little doubt that Sony’s marketing team has thoroughly researched the fallout that a high price could cause. They clearly seem to feel that gaming has developed to a point that consoles can support prices that are quickly approaching those of PCs.

Has Sony finally made a huge mistake? They very well could have. Their fourth quarter release is timed to strike at the very heart of X-mas, which is certainly designed to help fuel demand, and benefits from the predisposition of parents that they need to fulfill at least one of their child’s X-mas wishes. However, rising gasoline prices, and climbing interest rates are already taking their toll in the United States, which is by far Sony’s largest market outside of Japan. Considering the system comes with no games, and just one controller, sticker shock could very easily set in. The $599 system, an extra controller, and just two games quickly approaches the $1,000 dollar mark with sales tax included. This assumes that those willing to take the plunge and actually buy a system are able to get one. Remember the recent Xbox 360 supply problems, or the PS2 release?

Buyers who have already decided they are going to purchase a PS3 need to get onto one of the waiting lists quickly. A careful screening of the dozens of PS3 message boards indicates scalpers are preparing for a price gouging war of epic proportions. Anyone familiar with the bloody Xbox 360 wars on eBay should be prepared to lay out up to 400% above Sony’s retail price. Since this is also a X-mas release, it could easily get worse.

There is little doubt that Sony’s PS3 is going to create a global consumer rush for the latest and greatest, but how big or small that rush is going to be remains to be seen. Everyone is going to want one, but this may be a case where keeping up with the Joneses may only be possible if Santa and his elves put in some serious overtime.

Mobile Phone Users in UK : Mobile Games

Today, the mobile gaming industry has gone much ahead from the earlier times, when it had only simple and ordinary games.

The games once created for PC’s are coming up in mobile phones and a large number of people are enjoying playing those games on the move. Mobile handsets are coming up with the latest technology and they are able to cope with the latest java games with 3D graphics. With the latest handsets having 3G technologies, you can now play with real people rather than competing against “ghost opponents”.

On second-generation networks, the data transfer rate is too slow to play with real people. However, after 3G networks came into the picture, data transfer rates increased incredibly and now you can have multi-player gaming and real time racing.

Although playing latest technology games became relatively easier, people had to pay for the data they consumed while playing games.
Most operators currently charge users for the megabytes they use. Because of high prices charged for downloading games and browsing the web, people don’t spend much time online.

However, the flat rate pricing has completely altered the Internet industry and the number of people going online and mobile gamers has increased widely.

The user no longer has to restrict himself/herself to games that fit into the size of the memory of his/her handset. You can now add memory if you want to store games that require large memory. So now game makers can think about making games that need a huge storage capacity.

Without the introduction of 3G, these games wouldn’t have been possible. With the games going big, mobiles are also receiving a make over. The mobile version of NFSU2 has about 40 hours of game play in it. Another big game is Sims 2 mobile, which could not have been made without 3G.
PC games can now be loaded to a handset. The experience is as good as the full version even after changing the different modes for exploring and interacting.

To bring these complex games on a mobile phone is a big challenge. But a lot of progress is being made in this direction.
