Stop Chasing Perfection

Don’t you want the perfect life? The perfect job, mate, family, home? There’s nothing wrong with that desire if you define perfection on your own terms. Usually, we let others (a friend, teacher, parents, and the media) define it for us, and then spend the rest of our life trying to live someone else’s fantasy.

Women, in particular, are bombarded with hundreds of images of perfection on a daily basis, all of which promise happiness, yet few of which real women can achieve. (In a magazine interview Jane Fonda said, “Most womenno matter how beautifulgrow up feeling their bodies are not perfect.”) Magazine photos of even the plus size models don’t dare show one little dimple of cellulite on their size 14 thighs! TV celebrity chefs demonstrate how to cook the perfect gourmet meal in minutes, and design experts tell us how to serve it up on perfectly decorated tables. This is not real life for most of us. Have you ever had the time, energy or desire to decoupage your own napkin rings? How about pressing your own olives for the bread dip at your next dinner party? Just thinking about it makes me exhausted and begs the questionwhy?

There was a time I wouldn’t invite guests to my house unless it was thoroughly scrubbed by professional cleaners within a day or twoas if someone would really notice the dust bunny lurking on the floor behind the toilet. Surely, it would spoil their evening and any image of perfection they had of me.

The unending quest for perfection upon a lifetime ends up looking like a horrible make-up job that smothers reality in layers of noticeably thick cover-up, mismatched colors and empty promises. If you think you must be perfect, nothing will ever make you feel perfect enoughunless you want to sell your soul and become a Stepford Wife. Do you want your kids to remember how clean you kept the house or the fun things you did together? I’m not saying you shouldn’t keep your house neat, work hard to be promoted, improve your tennis skills or even get that nose job you’ve always wanted. Just make sure you’re doing all of it for yourself, not to meet someone else’s definition of perfection. Your imperfections are what make you unique, vulnerable and lovingthose are the qualities in life worth pursuing.

Chase the things in life that make you truly happy. Being a happy Goddess will always outrank being a perfect Goddess.

5 Ways to Stop Chasing Perfection:

• Make a list of all your unique qualities and assign a positive word to each of them.

• Remind yourself that what you see in magazines and on TV isn’t REALit’s merely entertainment.

• Adjust your expectations of yourself and others based on each individual’s ability and interest.

• Shine in those areas that come natural to you and don’t worry about the rest.

• Before going the extra mile, ask yourself if it really matters and why.

Eyebrow POW!

I admit it. I have an eyebrow obsession. Nothing can ruin your looks easier. Your eyebrows frame your most important feature: your eyes. They also show expression. Don’t underestimate the power of the eyebrow. Beautiful brows can be yours if you follow these steps.

Shape up

• One of the biggest mistakes aspiring models, and women in general, make is over-plucking their eyebrows.

• Check out the models in the magazines. Are the eyebrows pencil thin? I don’t think so.

• Let your brows grow out. It will be visually painful, but you’ll get used to it.

• If you have been over-plucking for a long time, it will take a long time for them to grow back.

• While your brows are growing out, use a stencil (see below) and
powder to fill them in.

• They may not grow back at all. I know several women with bald spots in their brows. They use a lot of eyebrow powder. More on that later.

• If your eyes are close together, pluck so the space in the center just a bit wider.

• If your eyes are very far apart, let the brows grow slightly closer to the center.

• Go to an upscale salon for a professional wax. Don’t try to do it yourself. It’s dangerous and it hurts!

• Make sure the esthetician understands you want them thicker rather than thinner.

• Once you have the proper shape, you can follow the lines.

• Use slant-tip tweezers. Tweezerman makes awesome tweezers. Go to http://www.tweezerman.com for more information.

• Check for new, unwanted growth daily and plucking will never be a chore.

• Never pluck right before a job or go-see since redness may occur.

• As an alternative to professional shaping, you can buy really cool eyebrow stencils at http://www.eyebrowz.com. But stay away from the curved and thin stencils. Stick with the medium and thick choices. Just don’t pick anything odd. Try to follow your natural shape as much as possible.

Guys:

• “Unibrows” (aka “Monobrows”) are nasty.

• You certainly don’t want your brows so neat they look feminine, but you will need to pluck in the middle and the strays under and over the brows.

• Look at Details and GQ magazines for eyebrow shapes.

• You, too, can buy really cool eyebrow stencils at http://www.eyebrowz.com. Don’t pick anything feminine. Try to follow your natural shape as much as possible.

Just pluck it.

• Apply witch hazel to the area with a cotton ball.

• Use a pencil to line up the points.

• The eyebrow should start directly above the inner corner of your eye.

• The arch should be just a little beyond the outer edge of the iris.

• It should end at the corner of the eye.

• Brush your eyebrows in a natural shape with a new toothbrush (not the one you use of course) or brow brush.

• Use a magnifying mirror, but keep checking in a regular mirror. It’s very easy to overpluck.

• Pluck right after a shower. It’s easier.

• Pluck in the direction of the growth.

• Anbesol (tooth numbing gel) works to ease the pain. Just don’t get it in your eyes.

Color conversion.

• Color is as important as shape.

• You can alter the color of your eyebrows with powder specifically made for this purpose.

• If your hair is dark, choose a powder one or two shades lighter.

• Light haired people should go one or two shades darker than their hair.

• If you insist on pencil, use it in small, feathered strokes. Use a light hand since pencil can look obvious.

Other tips

• Never get your eyebrows permanently tattooed. Eyebrow trends do
change, albeit slowly. I knew a tattooed girl whose eyebrows looked like a clown’s, and she was stuck with a constant look of surprise.

• Please never draw them on with a pencil. Powder is a much better choice.

• Spray hairspray on your finger tip and smooth on unruly brows.

• Never dye your eyebrows unless you don’t value your eyesight.

Medical Hair Restoration Techniques - Surgical and Non-Surgical Procedures

Medical hair restoration techniques and hair transplantation have been the subject of much research and attention. It is estimated that nearly 90% of all men will experience some degree of male pattern baldness in their life, with some variance based on genetic factors as well as medical factors. With the problem of hair loss so widespread it is no wonder, then, that medical restoration is generally divided into two categories of treatment - non-surgical and surgical. Each has its own advantages and disadvantages, and may or may not be right for an individual experiencing hair loss.

Non-Surgical Hair Restoration

Non-surgical treatments requiring no actual medical transplantation have long been available in many forms, most of which are ineffective at restoring hair and a waste of money at best. In recent years, though, two hair loss drugs have emerged as both effective and affordable. In fact, they are the only two FDA approved hair loss treatments available today.

Finasteride - This is a prescription-only medication for restoring hair that is marketed under the brand name Propecia. It comes in the form of a pill that is taken daily, leading to varying degrees of hair regrowth over the course of several months. It carries a strong warning to women who are pregnant or could become pregnant, as Propecia can cause birth defects in unborn children. Women should not use Propecia or even handle the pills, as the medication can be absorbed through the skin.

Minoxidil - This former prescription medication is now available over the counter for use by both men and women, marketed under the brand name Rogaine. It is a topical hair restoration treatment that is applied to the scalp daily to promote hair regrowth. Results from Rogaine will vary, generally appearing within several months of use.

Both Propecia and Rogaine are easy and convenient to use and have been found to be effective to varying degrees. The biggest disadvantage of these non-surgical hair restoration methods is that if they are ever discontinued, any hair regrowth that has occurred will be lost. Over time, the cost of Propecia and Rogaine medication can add up to quite a lot of money.

Surgical Hair Restoration

An increasingly popular and affordable form of hair replacement treatment involves surgical techniques and procedures. From hair transplantation to scalp reduction surgery, several options available provide a more long-lasting solution to hair loss than do non-surgical treatments.

Hair Transplant Surgery

The most common form of surgical medical hair restoration is hair transplantation. Hair transplant surgery is minimally invasive compared to other options, and can produce extremely good results for many patients. Improvements and innovations in techniques and equipment have led to hair transplantation being easier and safer than ever before. An experienced surgeon can create results that look very natural, not at all like the early days of hair restoration when patients emerged with rows of “hair plugs” that looked almost artificial in some cases.

Common Hair Transplantation Techniques

Follicular Unit Extraction - This medical restoration technique uses a very small punch tool to extract single hair follicles from the donor area. The punch tool is usually one millimeter or less in diameter.

Micrografting - This method of extracting hair from a donor area creates a graft containing just one or two hairs that is then placed into the scalp using a microneedle or a very small punch. The graft can be taken directly from the donor location or sliced off a larger round donor graft.

Minigrafting/Multi-Unit Grafts - This hair transplantation method extracts hair from the donor area in slightly larger configurations, generally anywhere from three to six hairs each. It is common for these types of grafts to be created by slicing sections off a larger round donor graft.

Round Grafts - The earliest hair transplantation and restoration techniques used round grafts that contained twenty or more hairs per graft, and were implanted whole into the scalp. It is much more common now for round grafts to first be sliced into micro- or minigrafts before implantation.

Hairline Refinement - This method uses micro- and mini-grafting techniques to place very small grafts in and around the hairline area to restore the former look. This softens the look of the medical hair transplant tremendously, making it look more natural and less like a row of “plugs” implanted in the scalp.

Alopecia Reduction Surgery

Another method of medical restoration treatment is known as alopecia reduction surgery. It is used primarily in male patients who have pronounced bald areas of the scalp. There are three common variations of alopecia reduction surgery:

Scalp Reduction - This medical restoration technique involves removal of bald scalp and moving the edges of hair-growing scalp closer together. It is used primarily in patients with bald scalp areas on the crown area of the head.

Scalp Flap - This hair restoration method removes bald scalp areas and then uses strips of hair-growing scalp to replace the removed scalp. The strips are often rotated to fit the excised area of bald scalp more naturally.

Scalp Expansion - This medical restoration technique uses a temporary balloon device to expand hair-growing areas of the scalp prior to scalp reduction or scalp flap surgery. This transplant surgery involves placing the expander under the scalp, usually along the sides, while gradually increasing the size and stretching the skin over the course of two or three weeks. The expanded areas can then be stretched or used as donor strips to replace balding scalp.

Which Treatment is the Best?

There is no single medical hair restoration treatment - hair transplant surgery or non-surgical - that is best for every patient. The decision of which treatment to use should be based on a proper diagnosis of the hair loss cause along with the amount of time, effort and money the patient wants to put into the process.

Non-surgical treatments like Rogaine and Propecia are easier to apply and somewhat more discreet than surgical treatments. The medications are readily available either over the counter (in the case of Rogaine) or by prescription (in the case of Propecia) and do produce results for many people. They are not effective in restoring hair for everyone, though, and it does take several months for any improvement to actually appear.

Surgical treatments like hair transplantation and alopecia reduction surgery are more expensive than non-surgical treatments and require a bit more effort on the patient’s part. Recovery time will vary depending on the treatment used, and the more invasive restorative procedures are difficult to hide or keep private in the days immediately following this medical treatment. In some cases, patients may choose to take time off from work in order to fully recover.

The only reliable way to decide on a medical hair transplantation or restoration technique is to see a doctor. With a proper diagnosis of the cause of hair loss, he or she can provide information and advice about treatment options as well as referrals to hair restoration specialists in your area.

Help With Hair Loss - Save Those Folicals

Today, many women and men are looking for help to cure hair loss. It is a problem affecting one’s social life. Most of us feel that the outer appearance is an important thing to be successful. Hence there is great need for hair loss products..

Hair loss treatments are available in different forms such as medicines, lotions, and shampoos. To choose the drug that is right for you, you first need to figure out the cause of your hair loss. There are many reasons for losing hair: aging, heredity and hormonal imbalance. DHT, Dihydrotestosterone is an important precursor for hair loss. DHT will block the flow of essential nutrient to the hair, which in turn stops healthy hair growth.

Saw Palmetto is a powerful herb that lowers the DHT in the body by 5 alpha-reductase blockades. Saw Palmetto stops hair loss by blocking the cell membrane receptor sites in the hair follicle where DHT might get absorbed.

Another herb called Nettle Root also provides hair loss cure by preventing two enzymes viz., aromatase and 5 alpha-reductase, which makes estrogen and dihydrotestosterone (DHT) respectively. Research confirmed that these two enzymes have been blocked completely by the Nettle Root extract.

A cure of hair loss can also be achieved by choosing the medications that block DHT. Hair Genesis, NuGen, and Revivogen are the most suitable medications to block DHT in the scalp. Out of these three products, Revivogen is the most popular one. It fights against the thinning of hair by minimizing the DHT level in the scalp.

Viviscal, Nisim, Folligen and Tricomin are the commonly available shampoos, scalp lotions and conditioners that help to stop hair loss. Viviscal is used extensively for curing hair loss. It is available in tablet form also. Folligen is available with copper peptides to treat hair loss. Tricomin is available in three forms as spray, shampoo and conditioner. It also contains copper.

Trace minerals such as Zinc and magnesium also help to stop hair loss. Zinc is mainly helpful in fighting against skin problems such as boils, sore throats and acne. In addition to this, Zinc plays a crucial role in cell division.

Though there are so many medicines are available to help treating hair loss, only two medications (Rogaine and Propecia) have been approved by the FDA. Rogaine and Propecia are used by men all over the world to stop hair loss.

Organic Skin Care - The Natural Successor?

Time was the word ‘organic’ invoked images of knobbly, humorously shaped vegetables still caked in their mud encrusted cloaks. But things are changing and the growing demand for all things natural is, it seems, a lot more than just a passing fad. What was once seen as a responsible and old fashioned approach to looking after the environment has become part of a much more modern lifestyle drive to looking after ourselves.

Nowhere more than the beauty industry have we seen the greatest shift with new products springing up all over to match the demands of an increasingly aware public. And with momentum being added by a long list of celebrity it seems things are set to continue. But why should we bother with organic skin care, and who says it’s any better that the usual list of suspects?

“The fact is that around 60% of the products we use on our skin are absorbed deep into the system so we’re being affected as much by what we rub on or rinse through as we are by what we eat or drink” says Pur Natural Skincare director Linda Jones. “Our skincare, like our food, is often imbued with a cocktail of ingredients that offer nothing but a cheaper alternative to the natural ingredients they replace”.

Studies have shown that these little nasties can build up and store themselves in parts of the body you’d really rather they didn’t! But how does organic skincare work?

Linda explains: “In simple terms, if we’re keeping the toxins out and introducing the right mix of naturally beneficial compounds we’re improving and enhancing the skin’s natural repair and renewal rhythm”. So by opting for organic are we fighting a winning battle? Unfortunately things are never quite that simple.

All great breakthroughs have their imitations and with a lack of strict controls on labeling many ‘organic’ pretenders are finding a lucrative niche. It seems that in many cases it doesn’t ‘do exactly what it says on the tin’. So how can we be sure that what we’re buying is the genuine unadulterated article?

“Organic certification is a good place to start” says Pur’s marketing director Simon Ford, “but even here we have to be cautious because by their own admission many certification agencies check paper trails for organic ingredients rather than the actual product”. But unless you have a Caesaresque talent for Latin, reading the label won’t be much help.

“If you want to be sure of what you’re getting you have to read the label” says Simon. “We spend a lot of energy translating our labels into plain English, but if you’re still not sure about something you can phone our ingredient helpline listed on the label and we’ll happily advise you”.

In the meantime here’s a quick summary of the most common suspects to avoid:

AHAs - Alpha-hydroxy acids
Parabens
Phthalates
Sodium Lauryl Sulphate
DEA - diethanolamine

Toxic Ingredients in Cosmetics and Skin Care Products

Have you ever examined the ingredients listed on the labels of your cosmetics or other skin care products? Do you know what those ingredients are?

What you may not realize is that many of the skin care products and cosmetics you are buying contain ingredients that are not only harmful to your skin, but also to your long term health. Many of these ingredients are known carcinogens (cancer-causing substances) and are used by the cosmetic industry simply because they are cheap!

Harmful Ingredients Commonly Found in Skin Care Products and Cosmetics -
The following are just some of the synthetic chemicals that have been identified by scientific studies to be harmful to our health.

Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS) and Ammonium Lauryl Sulfate (ALS) -
Often described as being “derived from coconut” to disguise their toxic nature, these chemicals are commonly used in shampoos, toothpaste, foaming facial and body cleansers and bubble bath. SLS and ALS can cause severe skin irritation, and are easily absorbed into the body, building up in the brain, heart, lungs and liver, leading to potential long term health problems. SLS and ALS may also cause cataracts, and prevent children’s eyes from developing properly.

Paraben Preservatives -
Parabens are widely used in cosmetics, deodorants, skin care and baby products to prolong their shelf life. They are known to be highly toxic and have caused rashes and allergic reactions. Recent scientific studies in the UK found a strong link between the use of parabens and the increasing rate of breast cancer in women. Researchers found a high concentration of parabens in 90% of breast tumors tested.

Propylene Glycol -
Found in many beauty creams, cosmetics and cleansers, Propylene Glycol can cause skin rashes and contact dermatitis, and has been shown to cause damage to the kidneys and liver.

Isopropyl Alcohol -
Alcohol is used as a solvent in many skin care products. It causes skin irritation and strips the skin of its natural acid mantle, promoting the growth of bacteria, moulds and viruses. It may also cause premature ageing of skin.

DEA (Diethanolamine), TEA (Triethanolamine) and MEA (Monoethanolamine) -
These substances are harsh solvents and detergents that are used in cosmetics and face and body creams as an emollient. They can cause allergic reactions, and long term use of DEA-based products (such as Cocamide DEA) have been linked to an increase in the incidence of liver and kidney cancer.

Aluminum -
A common ingredient in antiperspirants, aluminum has been linked to Alzheimer’s Disease.

Mineral Oil -
Derived from petroleum (crude oil), mineral oil is commonly found as a main ingredient of face and body creams and cosmetics. Baby oil is 100% mineral oil! It coats the skin like a plastic film, clogging pores and stopping the skin from eliminating toxins, which can lead to acne and other skin disorders. Other petroleum based ingredients include paraffin wax, paraffin oil and petrolatum.

Polyethylene Glycol (PEG) -
Used as a thickener in skin care products and cosmetics, PEGs interfere with the skin’s natural moisture balance, causing an increase in ageing and leaving the skin vulnerable to bacteria.

Talc -
Talc is a soft mineral used in talcum powders and cosmetic powders. Scientific studies have shown that routine application of talcum powder to the genital area is linked with a three-to-fourfold increase in the development of ovarian cancer. Inhaling cosmetic powders containing talc may also be harmful to long term health.

How To Avoid These Toxins -
Examine the labels of your cosmetics and skin care products carefully, and learn to recognize ingredients that are harmful to your skin and to your health. Many web sites have lists of potentially harmful ingredients in addition to those shown above (e.g. Environmental Working Group).

Don’t be fooled by the words ‘natural’ or ‘organic’ on the front of the label. Many products contain at least one or two natural or organic ingredients, but they may also contain harmful synthetic chemicals as well.

Whenever possible, choose products with 100% natural ingredients such as essential oils and herbs. Your skin will love you for it!

Colored Contact Lenses Guide - Picking The Right Color Every Time

Choosing the perfect colored contact lens can be a daunting task. But the good news is that it doesn’t have to be. With improved colors and a wider variety of tints to choose from, you will have the most spectacular eyes in the house in no time at all.

In order to pick the perfect colored contact, you must first have an idea of the look you are going for. Do you want to enhance your natural color, give a subtle change to your color or are you looking to completely change your eye color altogether?

If enhancing your natural eye color is what you are looking for, then you will want to purchase a colored contact that has an enhancement tint. By using a tint that is slightly darker than your natural color, enhancement lenses intensify the eye color making the eye more vibrant. Enhancement contacts are generally used for people with lighter-colored eyes.

Maybe you want just a subtle change in color. If so, choose a colored contact that is close to your natural color. For instance, if you’re eyes are blue, a gray tint will give you the type of color that has people whispering and wondering what is it that’s different about you today.

If you want to completely change your color, pick a contact lens that is a dramatic change from your natural color. This change doesn’t necessarily have to be something that is picked by chance. Find a contact lens color that is a contrast from your skin tone, hair, or makeup.

Most importantly, pick a colored contact that makes you feel comfortable and attractive. There are so many possibilities that if you get tired of a certain color one day, you can realistically have a completely different color the next day without breaking the bank. Whether it’s to enhance, give a subtle change, or to complete a new look, purchase your new colored contacts today!

Mike Schwartz is the owner of the popular web site Best Contact Lenses Online His site provides useful tips, resources, and reviews to help you make the best decision when purchasing contact lenses on the Internet.

Cellulite reducer or Liposuction?

So what exactly is this evil cellulite that so many of us suffer from? Simply put its small amounts of fat that become trapped in pockets just below the skins surface. Because the fat is close to the surface, it creates the icky cottage cheese appearance we all love so much. Thankfully there is an entire market developing around a new product, the Cellulite Reducer.

The answer for the last couple of decades to Cellulite has been liposuction. Simply put they suck the fat out of you, but since it is a medical procedure there are risks associated with it. Risks associated with Liposuction are:

Scars, swelling, infections, contour irregularities, and loose skin just to name a few.

Combine the medical risks associated with the expense of liposuction and it shouldn’t be a hard decision to give a good cellulite reducer a try before going under the knife. It’s a safer alternative and a lot less costly.

So how does a cellulite reducer work? If it’s not pulling the fat out of the problem areas how does it act on them from the outside?

First thing is there are some pill-based products that you can take as a cellulite reducer. It’s not really the best way to cure cellulite because blood doesn’t run well in the areas where cellulite exists. With low blood flow, it’s difficult to get the active ingredients to the area to reduce the cellulite. However you may think that’s it’s just as difficult to solve the cellulite problem from the outside in.

Not true, many cellulite reducers that are cream based products are applied to the affected area once or twice a day but they use active ingredients to actually shrink the fat below the skin. By shrinking the fat cells skin becomes more toned, and moisturized in the process.

It makes more sense to give a cellulite reducer a try. Of course the products do work. Most companies have many testimonials on their site about successful clients, but these products also have no medical risks and will not hurt your pocket book as much. In as little as 2 weeks some products will show an improvement, but you do need to be committed to the system.

Remember nothing happens over night, you need to follow the product instructions, and ensure you give the cellulite reducer time to do its job. Many products offer a free trial, or money back guarantee you should take advantage of this to test out the different products on the market, and if you’re not satisfied with them get your money back. It’s a competitive market out there, and there are many cellulite reducers to choose from, they all want your business so educate yourself, get out there and get rid of cellulite!

For more information on cellulite reducers, and the advatages of products over liposuction visit our website Cellulllite Reducer.
